INTRODUCTION Born in Tipton, Indiana, on February 28, 1907, Helen Daniels moved to Indianapolis in the 1920's and became one of the most effective lobbyists for human welfare issues in the state. During her forty year career as a social worker for the Community Service Council, Public Health Center, and Juvenile Court, Helen Daniels battled for better administration of poor relief funds, stricter child abuse laws, and a separate health and hospital corporation for Marion County. As an extremely effective lobbyist for more than thirty years, she describes her activities and depicts other well-known lobbyists in these interviews. Dr. F. Gerald Handfield, now State Archivist, Indiana Commission on Public Records, conducted the four interviews at the Indiana State Library. Patricia Matkovic, librarian in the Indiana Division of the State Library, edited the final copy and prepared the Introduction and Table of Contents. The transcript was typed by Mrs. Margaret E. Worrell, secretary to the Director of the Indiana State Library. Helen Daniels participated in these interviews enthusiastically, and the following pages reveal this enthusiasm in her energetic and positive outlook, dedication to her profession, and many accomplishments as a social worker and lobbyist. The transcript consists of four interviews: Interview #1 - March 15, 1977, p. 1-19 Intreview #2 - December 21, 1977, p. 20-28 Interview #3 - February 27, 1978, p. 29-50 Interview #4 - September 14, 1978, p. 51-65
