The Hendricks County Heritage Project is a collaboration between the Danville Public Library, Hendricks County Historical Museum and the Hendricks County Computer Center. The project s mission is to provide digital access to Hendricks County s historical and genealogical records.
Phase one of the project will digitize Central Normal College and Canterbury College records. Danville, Indiana, was the home of Central Normal College (CNC) from 1878 to 1946. The college was one of the nation s earliest normal schools which specialized in teacher s training. In 1946, the Episcopal Church took over the college and the name was changed to Canterbury College (CC). It became a liberal arts school until it closed in 1951. When the college closed, it was estimated that over 60,000 students had attended the two schools.
This collection was created in part by funding from a grant from the Indiana State Library made possible by the Library Services and Technology Act and administered by the Institute for Museum and Library Services.
