Additional information: George Miller, local historian, says in the June 1, 1974 Madison Courier that when the foundation and basement were poured, local children used it as a playhouse. Hide and seek took place in the basement and they built clubhouses on the hillside form the wood and materials lying about. He states there was great consternation when the hotel was completed and they were forced to give up their playground. Source: Madison Courier; City Directories
